Tour of the University of Minnesota's

Veterinary Diagnostic Lab


Join us on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 for our next Science Salon: Tour of the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Diagnostic Lab which will be led by Dr. Jim Collins, Professor in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, Board Certified Veterinary Pathologist and former Director of the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Collins' tour and talk will be supported by other Researchers at the VDL.  


The University of Minnesota's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is a national leader in providing rapid diagnosis of animal diseases, identifying emerging diseases, developing new diagnostic methods, and training diagnosticians and veterinarians. The VDL has been actively involved in research and diagnosis of mad cow disease and swine flu, receiving samples from all over the North American Continent and beyond. The VDL collaborates with agencies such as the Diabetes Center, USDA and is the lab for the Board of Animal Health  (Veterinary and domestic animal oversight).


Participants will learn from Dr. Collins and fellow Researchers about work happening in the Necropsy Lab including the BSL-3 lab and the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Lab. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided for the BSL-3 lab. Please wear closed toed shoes.


Please register for one of two 55 minute tours. The registration fee is $20. Student rate is $10 and MAS members can attend for free. Tour spots are limited to 15 per tour. Dessert and coffee will also be provided.
